The "new trail head" referred to by John Robinson is nothing new. I have seen old Togo maps and the "new trail head" actually is intersecting a portion of an old trail from the long closed Burbank YMCA Camp below the Dam. This trail is not on the 1953 map but is on earlier maps. The map I saw shows 2 trail heads one at the YMCA camp and one in Stonyvale. When the Big Tujunga Canyon road was put in during the 50's new Trail heads where apparently established.

There is no mention of water along the trail but there is a very reliable spring about 4 miles from the road. I would suggest if you are returning the same way to bring a filter and drink your fill as most people don't bring enough water
