Haines Canyon

There are numerous routes starting in Haines Canyon, the main route is Mt Lukens road FR 2N76, this road is about 5 1/2 miles long, one way and has a lot of southern exposure so hiking this route on a warm late spring, summer, early fall day can be unpleasant.(2800 ft elevation gain).

The other road out of Haines Canyon is Graveyard Truck Trail FR 2N81, this ends over at Camp Louis Roth, a County Detention Camp. There are several cross country routes off this road and one trail I call Camelback.

The only trail IN Haines Canyon is the Sister Elsie Trail, the route most people use starts at the end of a spur off Mt Lukens road roughly 1.4 miles from the end of Haines Canyon Ave. The trail connects to the Stone Canyon Trail at the 3 mile mark, I'd wear long pants on this trail as there is lot's of brush along the trail with plenty of Stinging Nettle near the springs. One tricky spot is where the trail gets to the Oak covered canyon, here the trail appears to go to the left but it actually goes straight up under the Oak trees.

The only other trail is Cooks Canyon Trail, but this trail is closed due to severe erosion. See my Dunsmore Canyon page
